Carolinians in Inaugural U.S. Four-Balls

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. -- The inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball championships for men and women will take place in May.

The men will play May 2-6 at The Olympic Club (Lake Course) in San Francisco, Calif. The women will compete the following week, May 9-13, at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (Pacific Dunes Course) in Bandon, Ore. The CGA will be well-represented as fifteen teams with players from the Carolinas qualified. There are also fourteen alternate teams comprised of Carolinians.

U.S. Amateur Four-Ball

Todd White, of Spartanburg, S.C. will partner with fellow 2013 USA Walker Cup Team member and four-time USGA champion Nathan Smith. Four-time CGA Men's Player of the Year, Scott Harvey, of Greensboro, N.C. and Todd Mitchell of Bloomington, Ill shot 64 at their qualifier for medalist honors. Fresh off his Carolinas Mid-Amateur victory, Sherrill Britt, of West End, N.C. will partner with Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro, N.C., who finished fourth. William Gordon, a high school senior at the Cannon School in Concord, N.C. and Steve Harwell of Mooresville, N.C. shot 62 for medalist honors at their qualifier.

More than 2,200 teams entered the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Sectional qualifying at 51 sites nationwide from August 2014 to March 2015. A total of 128 two-player teams will compete in the Championship proper, with each playing their own ball. Each team's score will be determined using their better-ball score for each hole. After 36 holes of stroke-play competition, the field will be reduced to the low 32 teams for the match-play portion of the championship. Pairings

U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball

For the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball, a starting field of 64 two-player teams will compete. Following two 18-hole stroke-play qualifying rounds on May 9 and 10, the field will be cut to the low 32 sides for match play. Five 18-hole rounds of match play will determine the champion.

Each of the Carolinas teams that made the Championship proper were medalists at their qualifier. Three-time CGA Women's Player of the Year Dawn Woodard, of Greer, S.C. will partner with Meghan Stasi of Oakland Park, Fla. The duo were eight better than the rest of the field in their qualifier. Stasi is a USGA winner, having won the 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2012 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C. and Rachel Carpenter of St. Simon's Island, Ga. shot 70 and won the Pinewild Country Club qualifier by two shots, securing the only spot available from that location. Lori Adams of Burlington, N.C. and Kimberly Briele of New Bern, N.C. were first alternates at 72.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
