Trace Crowe Repeats as Creed Junior Boys' Champion

Camden, SC—Trace Crowe of Bluffton, SC shot a final round 67 coming from behind to win his second Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational hosted by Camden Country Club in Camden, SC. Crowe, the 2013 Champion, defended his title beating out first round leader Harrison Rhoades of Raleigh, NC by two shots. “I really thought I was going to have to make more birdies, but the course was playing difficult and pars were enough,” said the future Auburn University Tiger. With 90 of the best junior golfers from North and South Carolina Crowe’s second title was not easy on the firm and fast greens at Camden Country Club “You really have to think your way around this course. I just made up and down a lot of times, I am good at that and you have to do that well at this course,” said Crowe.

Rhoades, a future Georgetown Hoya, finished solo second at 141 which was five shots ahead of the next closest competitor. A pack of young guns finished tied for third as Coleman Self of Greenwood, SC, Henry Shimp of Charlotte, NC, Matt Carter of Easley, SC, Walker Cress of Concord, NC and Walker Simas of Charlotte, NC all finished at six over par 146.

Cress won the Boys’ 15-16 division making birdie on the first playoff hole to beat out three of his fellow-competitors.  The Boys’ 13-14 age division was won by Jacob Bridgeman of Inman, SC as he finished with rounds of 75-76 for a 151 total. Viraj Garewell of Raleigh, NC took home solo second just one shot behind Bridgeman

This annual junior tournament is conducted by Camden CC and the Carolinas Golf Association in memory of Mr. Jimmy Creed of Camden, SC.  Mr. Creed passed away in October of 2012 as one of the most popular and well thought of members at Camden Country Club.  “He loved kids and was very supportive of the junior golfers at the club,” said Camden CC head professional Matt McCarley.  McCarley added, “He was a former junior champion here at the club and made it to the semifinals of the CGA four ball championship.”  Proceeds from the tournament will go to a scholarship foundation to help local children.
