Team Virginias Wins Captain’s Putter Team Matches for First Time Since 2020

Congratulations to Team Virginias on taking back the Captain’s Putter for the first time since 2020. Team Virginias earned 27 points over Team Carolinas’ 21 points to claim the 79th Captain’s Putter Team Matches. This makes the all-time record 54-24-1, with the Carolinas leading.
In the Four-Ball Matches on Friday morning, Team Carolinas got off to a solid start. With one point up for grabs in each of the 12 matches, Team Carolinas earned seven points, and Team Virginias earned five points. The two biggest wins for Team Carolinas came from the duo of Lee Porter + Paul Simson who dominated their match, winning 6 & 5, along with Steve Fox + Keith Waters who claimed their match 4 & 2. Noah Mullens + Sam O’Dell of Team Virginias claimed their match by the biggest margin, 5 & 3. Going into the next round of matches, Team Carolinas had a two-point lead over Team Virginias.
Then on Friday afternoon, Foursomes Matches began as the competition continued, again with one point available in each of the 12 matches. Team Carolinas secured 7.5 points, and Team Virginias added 5.5 points to their total. Again, Porter + Simson had the largest win for Team Carolinas at 4 & 3. Chandler Mulkey + Jon Weiss, Sam Jackson + Michael Sims, and Rick Cloninger + Yancey Johnson all won their matches 3 & 2.
Team Carolinas had 14.5 points total and Team Virginias had 9.5 points total heading into Singles Matches on Saturday.
On Saturday, Singles Matches rounded out the competition to determine which team would take home the trophy. Team Virginias, five points back, was ready for a competitive day of head-to-head matches.
Of the 24 matches, Team Virginias won a full point from 16 of the matches. The largest wins for Team Virginias came from Cam Roam who secured his match 7 & 6, and Pat Carter winning 6 & 5.
Three other matches were tied, earning a half point each, totaling to 17.5 points earned for the day for Team Virginias. Team Carolinas added 6.5 points to their total. Due to their impressive performance in Singles Matches on Saturday, Team Virginias finished ahead of Team Carolinas at a point total of 27-21, taking back the Captain’s Putter for the first time since 2020.
