LOCATION – West End, N.C.

Congratulations to Macie Burcham + Jeff Burcham of Greensboro, N.C. on defending their title and winning the 27th Carolinas Parent-Child Championship at Seven Lakes Golf Club in West End, N.C. The team shot 5-under, 67 to claim the title for the second year in a row, third year total.

On the front nine, the Burchams birdied holes 1 and 7 to head into the back nine at 2-under. They then birdied 12 and 15 to gain momentum as they came down the stretch.

Macie put her tee shot to just a few feet on the par 3 16th to give Jeff an opportunity to sink a birdie putt for the team. After getting a read, Jeff’s putt dropped, followed by a fist bump to put them one stroke ahead going into the final couple holes. Finishing with two pars on 17 and 18, the Burchams recorded a steady, consistent, bogey-free round to end at the top of the leaderboard yet again.

When asked what it’s like to play together, Macie shared, “We’ve always had the same strategy playing in this; I usually get the distance in the drive, he usually hits the second shot, so we kind of have a routine that we stick to that helps us when the pressure is on.”

“We hit a lull in the middle of the round. We should’ve birdied 8, 9, 10, 11, but we didn’t let that rattle us. We stayed even-keel and patient and that was a big thing,” Jeff said.

After playing in this event together for years and years, the Burchams have hit their stride.

“It’s just fun. He watches me play all the time, I play with him a lot, but it’s fun to actually play it like 50% my game, 50% his game. I always come into this tournament saying ‘This is so hard, we have to hit every other shot, but then it just clicks when we get together,” Macie explained.

Jeff added, “When we first started doing this, Macie was 11 or 12 years old, so it was 90% me and 10% her, but now she’s pulling 60% of the weight. It’s been great to see her game mature to where she’s the alpha now.”

This is the Burcham’s third year winning the Carolinas Parent-Child Championship, securing the win in 2021, last year in 2023, and now a third time in 2024.

“We definitely mark this on our calendar every year. We think it’s important, and we feel like she has a short window of playing competitively, so we want to maximize these opportunities,” Jeff stated.

When asked how it feels to defend the title, Macie shared, “It’s really special for me because he’s always pushed me and sacrificed so much for me to play golf and to push me to be at this level, so it’s kind of like me giving back to him. He’s watched me win and play well but it’s really cool to win together.”

Jeff added, “We have great respect for the CGA too, so to win a CGA championship, and now three times, we feel like that’s a big deal.”

Maria Atwood + Michael Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. and Jon Isaacson + Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, N.C. finished tied for second place right behind the Burchams at 4-under, 68.

Thank you to Head Golf Professional Mike Whiteley, Superintendent Mike Rose, and the rest of the staff at Seven Lakes Golf Club for a great day.
