The Carolinas team retained the title over the Virginias after an exciting comeback on the final day of competition. The final points tally was an even split, 8-8, which meant that the Carolinas retained the title because of their win in last year's competition.

The Carolinas team came into the day down one point to the Virginias team, and for much of the day it looked as though the trophy would be handed over to the Virginias. At one point in the day, the Virginias were winning all but one of the eight singles matches, but the Carolinas took the back nine by storm.

Kenan Poole of Raleigh, N.C. was the only Carolinas player to lead his match after nine holes, but the likes of Spencer Oxendine of Fayetteville, N.C., Drayton Stewart of Charleston, S.C., and Danny Azallion of Hilton Head Island, S.C. would all go on to win their matches on the back nine.

Stewart, the 2018 Carolinas Junior champion, found himself 1 down through 12 holes but battled back and sank his second 18th hole, match-clinching putt in as many days to give the Carolinas their first win of the day.

Azallion, the 2018 S.C. Junior champion, came to No. 18 all square with his competitor and would go on to make par to win his match. With his win, it gave Oxendine, the 2018 Jimmy Creed champion, the chance to win the final match and clinch the title, and he didn't hesitate.

After an errant tee shot in the pine straw on No. 16, Oxendine would stick his approach shot 10 feet from the hole and sink the birdie putt in front of all of his teammates to give the Carolinas their third straight title, and seventh in the past eight years.
