RALEIGH, NC – First round results of the 48th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 (6,291 yards, par 36-36—72, 70.5/126).
Jim Grainger of Charlotte, N.C. reunited with past four-ball partner, Jim Pearson of Charlotte, NC to card a bogey-free 12-under par, 60 to take a four shot lead after 18 holes on the Oaks Course at North Ridge Country Club.
Grainger, who is battling kidney stones, changed his putting stroke in the practice round which lead to “the best putting performance ever” in his words. “I just grabbed the putter different, kept my head down and when I looked up they were falling in the hole” said the first round leader.
Jim Pearson who missed last year’s championship due to health issues, came back strong. “It was good to be back on the team.” Pearson joked. Grainger won the 2015 championship with Rick Cloninger from Fort Mill, SC. Cloninger partnered with John Rudolph from Charlotte, NC this year and shot a five-under 67 and is in a tie for 8th.
The championship is contested over 54-holes of four-ball stroke play. After Wednesday’s second round, the field of 76 teams will be cut to the low 30 scores and ties for the final round on Thursday.

The Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the opening date, is a resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
