Preview: 22nd Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (September 20, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 22nd Carolinas Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Kiawah Island Resort (Oak Point) in Kiawah Island, S.C. from September 22 - 23, 2020. The Championship Division will compete at 5,515 yards, par 72 and the Carolinas Division will compete at 4,954 yards, par 72.

Players to Watch:

 

• Jayne Pardus of Mount Pleasant, S.C. is the reigning Carolinas Senior Women’s Champion and the 2019 Carolinas Senior Women’s Player of the Year. After winning the 2019 and 2020 WSCGA Senior Championship, Pardus is the No. 3 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Senior Women’s Rankings.
   

• Patty Moore of Pinehurst, N.C. is a seven-time Carolinas Senior Women’s Champion and six-time runner-up. Most recently, she won the Women’s North & South Super Senior Amateur, her seventh Putter Boy trophy. Moore has more CGA championship titles under her belt than any other woman, 19 championships, and she is looking to earn her 20th this week.
   

• Brenda Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. was the runner-up in this event last year after going into a playoff with Pardus, the eventual champion. Kuehn is the No. 6 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Senior Women’s Rankings. 
   

• Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant, S.C. was the 2017 Carolinas Senior Women’s runner-up and finished in sixth in this event last year. Brown recently won the Senior Division title at the Carolinas Mixed Team Championship for the second year in a row with her partner Mark Hoover. She is also the 2018 Carolinas Senior Women’s Player of the Year. 
   

• Kerry Rutan of Daniel Island, S.C. recently won the State Division title at the WSCGA Championship. Rutan tied for seventh in the WSCGA Senior Championship and finished in seventh in this event last year. She is the No. 7 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Senior Women’s Rankings.

 

Oak Point at Kiawah Island Resort was originally designed by Clyde Johnston and has since been impeccably maintained. The course is built around the Kiawah River, Haulover Creek and picturesque coastal flora. With undulating fairways and taxing greens, Oak Point will provide a challenge for the field this week.

The championship is contested at 36 holes of stroke play with a Championship Division and Carolinas Division (shorter course). Players have the option to compete in either the Championship Division or Carolinas Division. Players are pre-flighted within their division based on Handicap Index. The overall champion can come from any flight within the Championship Division. The Carolinas Division plays a shorter course and is ineligible for the overall championship. 

 

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by September 22, 2020, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
