Pierce Robinson of Kings Mountain, N.C. took a swift lead with a striking 7-under-par, 65 today to make for an 8-under-par, 136 total going into the final round. Robinson’s round consisted of five birdies, an eagle, and absolutely no bogeys.
“Today I just came in and wanted to practice a little more at the start. My plan was to just go out there and improve upon the holes that I didn't do well on yesterday and make as many birdies as I could,” said Robinson.
Robinson is confident going into tomorrow and planning to use the same strategy in the final round. “ I’ve got my ball striking and especially my putting where I want it,” said Robinson. “If I can just take it one shot and one hole at a time and try to just do the same thing that I did today then I will be fine. I just have to keep playing offense and I will be in good shape.”
Jake Herring of Wilson, N.C. is in solo second at 6-under-par, 138 just two strokes behind the lead going into the final round. Herring made five birdies today and kept going strong up to his last hole of the day when he made his only bogey for the round.
His strategy for tomorrow is simple. “I am just going to try and make birdies and pars and hope for the best,” said Herring.
Todd Moyer of Cornelius, N.C. is in third with a 5-under-par, 139 total after the second round. Zach Roberts of Holly Springs, N.C. is in fourth place with a 4-under-par, 140 followed by Matthew Hutto of Blythewood, S.C. in fifth with a 2-under-par, 142 total going into the final round.
The field was cut to the low 70 and ties with the cut line falling at 154. Seventy-six players will be advancing into the final round of the 70th Carolinas Junior Boys’ Championship.
