Can White make it four at the SC Match Play?

Todd White will look to get his fourth South Carolina Match Play Championship at this year's torunament.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 7, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 46th South Carolina Match Play Championship at the Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. from June 13-17.

Players to watch:

• The only multiple-time champion in this year's field, Todd White of Spartanburg, S.C., was the runner up at last year's championship and will hope to get over the hump. White is currently ranked ninth in the Carolinas Men's Rankings.

• 2016 champion Connor Bruns of Duncan, S.C. returns to the field this year. Bruns also finished second at last years Carolinas Amateur Championship and is ranked 35th in the Carolinas Men's Rankings.

• Matthew Laydon of Charleston, S.C. will also look to reclaim his championship form. The 2012 champion, Laydon has also finished ninth at the 2017 SCGA Mid-Amateur and fifth at the 2017 Carolinas Four Ball.

• James Lightsey Jr. of Fort Mill, S.C. is ranked 18th in the Carolinas Men's Rankings and has finished sixth in last year's Carolinas Amateur and ninth in the Carolinas Mid-Amateur earlier this year.

• Andrew Orischak of Hilton Head Island, S.C. bowed out in the quarterfinals of last year's championship and finished fourth in the Carolinas Amateur Championship last year.

• John O'Brien of Columbia S.C. is currently ranked 55th in the Carolina's Men's Rankings and made it to the round of 16 in last year's championship. O'Brien also finished fifth at last year's SCGA Mid-Amateur.

• Nick Russell of Hilton Head Island, S.C. was a quarterfinalist in last year's championship and also finished in the top-20 at the Carolinian Amateur in May. Russell is ranked 72nd in the Carolinas Men's Rankings.

• Logan Sowell of Kershaw, S.C. is currently ranked 87th in the Carolinas Men's Rankings and made it to the round of 16 in last year's championship. He was also a top-10 finisher at last year's SCGA Amateur Championship.
   

Furman University Golf Club has been known as one the premier campus courses in the country for many years. The challenging, par-72 layout underwent a major renovation in 2008, where all 18 greens were reconstructed under USGA specifications and reseeded with Champion UltraDwarf Bermuda grass. Furman University GC has hosted three CGA championships in the past and this will be its first time hosting the South Carolina Match Play Championship.

Championship format is 36 holes of stroke play to determine 32 qualifiers for match play.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by June 13, 2018, is a legal resident of South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4. Entries are subject to rejection at any time, including during the event, by the CGA or the host club. The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct. All players must conform to the “USGA Rules of Amateur Status” as specified in “The Rules of Golf”. A college student is considered a resident of their parent(s)/guardian(s) “Legal Residency Criteria” as stated in the CGA Tournament Manual unless said student (a) has no dependency on his/her parents; and (b) lives full time in South Carolina. About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
