Sides to Watch at 49th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball
Having won four Carolinas Four-Ball titles together, Frank Ford, III and Jim Burgess are looking to add Carolinas Senior Four-Ball champions to their resumes.
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 6, 2017) -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 49th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship will take place June 7-9 at Seabrook Island Club (Ocean Winds) in Johns Island, S.C. This will be the first time since 1979 that Seabrook hosts the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship. The field is expected to consist of 45 sides for this 54-hole stroke-play event.

Sides to Watch:
Jim Grainger and Jim Pearson of Charlotte, N.C. team up to defend their title. A record-setting three-day total of 24-under-par helped them win by five shots last year. With a win this week, Grainger, a six-time time CGA champion, will secure his third straight Carolinas Senior Four-Ball victory (partnered with Rick Cloninger in 2015).
Macon Moye of Pinehurst, N.C., a three-time CGA champion, is coming off a second-place finish at the North Carolina Senior Amateur in May. Moye will partner with Frank Golden of Charlotte, N.C.
The duo of Russ Perry of Winston Salem, N.C. and Mark Stephens of Troutman, N.C. finished T18 in last year's championship. Together the pair won the 2016 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball and 2017 North Carolina Senior Four-Ball.
Four-time Carolinas Four-Ball champions Frank Ford, III of Charleston, S.C. and Jim Burgess of Murrells Inlet, S.C. will seek their first Carolinas Senior Four-Ball title as a team. Ford won in 2011 with Bill Smunk of Kingstree, S.C., who is partnering with Mike Mahoney of Greenville, S.C.
Walter Todd, Sr. of Laurens, S.C. and Todd Hendley of Greer, S.C. faced-off as opponents in the 2017 South Carolina Senior Four-Ball, with Walter Todd, Sr. and his partner edging Hendley and his teammate.
Wayne Pyrtle of Burlington, N.C. and Butch English of Cornelius, N.C. lost to Perry/Stephens in a playoff at the 2017 North Carolina Senior Four-Ball.
Doug Owens of Albemarle, N.C. finished T3 in May's N.C. Senior Amateur. Owens will partner with Charlie Parks of Asheboro, N.C.

Format: 54-holes stroke play. Gross scores only. After 36 holes, cut to low 30 scores and ties. A tie for the overall
championship is decided by an on-course playoff.
Eligibility: Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by
June 7, 2017, and is either:
a. “Legal Resident” of North Carolina or South Carolina, a member in good
standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club, or
b. “Non-Resident” who is a member of a Type I (Green Grass) CGA member
club, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® issued by a Type I (Green
Grass) CGA member club, and owns a residence in North Carolina or South
Carolina. Note: Non-residents must use their Carolinas residence address when
registering for this championship.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
