Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship Preview

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (April 17, 2017) -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 37th Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship will take place April 21-23 at Providence Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. When this championship was held at the club in 2007, Walter Todd, Sr. of Laurens, S.C. edged Steve Liebler of Irmo, S.C. by one shot.

The Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship format is 54 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scores and ties. Entry is open to any male golfer who has reached his 30th birthday by April 21, 2017, is a legal resident of North or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the CGA and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a member club that does not exceed 7.4.

The field for the 2017 championship is expected to consist of 128 players. Exempt players were automatically accepted into the championship while others were required to qualify for the tournament through one of five 18-hole qualifiers.

In last year's championship at Dataw Island Club, Steve Liebler of Irmo, S.C. and Lionel Sutton of La Grange, N.C. tied for second, six shots behind Scott Harvey of Greensboro, N.C. While Harvey will not be defending his title, both Liebler and Sutton are in this year's field.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
