Scott Harvey's 2014 Golf Season Recap
Scott Harvey, of Greensboro, N.C., is the #1 ranked amateur in the Carolinas. The three-time Carolinas Player of the Year had a 2014 golf season to remember. He was selected to Team USA’s roster for the Concession Cup in May. Then in July he won the Cardinal Amateur. At the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship in September, he was stroke-play medalist and went on to win the championship. He was named the Southern Golf Association’s National Amateur of the Month for September.
Scott Harvey defeated fellow co-medalist Brad Nurski, 6 and 5, in the U.S. Mid-Amateur championship.
At the end of September, he represented North Carolina in the USGA Men’s State Team Championship. In October he played on team Carolinas in its annual Captain’s Putter Match against the Virginias.
Harvey is one of 16 players who have been invited to attend next month’s practice session for the 2015 Walker Cup. He was also selected to represent the USA at the 2015 South American Amateur Championship, to be contested Jan. 22-25 at Lima Golf Club in Lima, Peru. Next month he will likely receive an invitation to play in the 2015 Masters Tournament, a spot traditionally earned by the current U.S. Mid-Am champ.
The CGA caught up with Harvey in September during the 21st North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship at Old Chatham Golf Club, where he finished T-2. He spoke with us about his U.S. Mid-Amateur victory.
