34th CAROLINAS MID-AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE RESERVE GOLF CLUB IN PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC ON APRIL 4-6, 2014
WEST END, NC -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 34th Mid-Amateur Championship will take place on April 4-6 at The Reserve Golf Club in Pawleys Island, SC.
The Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship format is 54 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scores and ties.
Entry is open to any male golfer who has reached his 30th birthday by April 4, 2014, is a legal resident of North or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA handicap index at a member club that does not exceed 5.4.
The Reserve is a private golf club located inside a gated community on the coast of South Carolina just 65 miles north of Charleston and 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach. The Reserve Golf Club features the #5 Golf Course on the Grand Strand according to the South Carolina Golf Panel. This Greg Norman design is a fit for golfers of all handicaps. This visually stunning low-country land, with its abundance of wildlife and wetlands, inspired the creation of this natural course. Since The Reserve Golf Club's debut in 1998, players and course evaluators nationwide have raved about the course's unique natural design. Greg Norman's 350 acre tract borders protected conservation areas and embraces 160 acres of natural wetlands with charming wooden bridges linking fairways
The club previously hosted the 2011 Carolinas Pro-Amateur Club and the 2011 Super Senior championships.
The field for the 2014 championship is expected to consist of 132 players. Exempt players were automatically accepted into the championship while others were required to qualify for the tournament through one of six 18 hole qualifiers.
Returning to defend his 2012 and 2013 Carolinas Mid-Amateur victories is Scott Harvey of Greensboro, NC. Harvey’s 2013 final round 68 at the Raleigh Country Club in Raleigh, NC and three-day total of 212 bested the field by five shots. Scott has been named Carolinas Men’s Player of the Year three consecutive times (2011-2013) and has cemented his place among the great players in the Carolinas.
Other notable players to make the field include four-time Carolinas Mid-Amateur Champion (1990, 91, 94 & 97) Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC; 2011 North Carolina Mid-Amateur Champion Brian Westveer of Charlotte, NC; 2011 Carolinas Mid-Amateur Champion Paul Tucker of Waxhaw, NC; 2010 Carolinas Mid-Am champion Steve Liebler of Irmo, SC and 2009 Carolinas Mid-Am Champion Jarrett Grimes of Columbia, SC. In addition, 2 other former Carolinas Mid-Am Champions will compete this year: 2005 winner John Finster of Raleigh, NC and 2007 winner Walter Todd of Laurens, SC.
