SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (Feb. 28, 2020) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced the qualifying sites for the 75th U.S. Women’s Open Championship, which will be contested June 4-7, 2020, at Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas.

Conducted over 36 holes, qualifying will be held at 25 courses, including four international sites, between April 21 and May 14.

Gaston Country Club in Gastonia, N.C. will host this year's Carolinas-based qualifier on Tuesday, May 5. Gaston Country Club has a rich history of championship golf and has hosted 15 CGA Championships. Last year, the club celebrated its 100-year anniversary and hosted the Carolinas Senior Women's Amateur Championship which was won by Jayne Pardus of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

In last year's U.S. Women's Open Qualifier at Starmount Forest Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., our 2019 Carolinas Women's Player of the Year, Gina Kim of Chapel Hill, N.C., claimed one of two spots after a 3-for-1 playoff. Kim ultimately finihsed T12 as the low amateur in the Championship held at the Country Club of Charleston.

The U.S. Women's Open is open to female professionals and amateurs with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 2.4. Online entry applications open Monday, March 2 and continue through Wednesday, April 15, at 5 p.m. EDT at champs.usga.org.

“This year marks a significant milestone for the U.S. Women’s Open and without the continued support of our partners at Allied Golf Associations across the country, as well as several international organizations, we would not be able to properly celebrate the 75th playing of this championship, which will be seen around the world,” said John Bodenhamer, senior managing director, Championships. “We thank them for their integral role and look forward to the U.S. Women’s Open in Houston this June.”

For the seventh consecutive year, U.S. Women’s Open qualifying will be conducted in England, Japan, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea. Two courses return as international sites: Dream Park Country Club in Incheon, Republic of Korea, on April 23, and Ohtone Country Club in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, on April 27.

Of the 21 qualifiers that will be played in the United States, California has the most sites with four, while Florida will host three.

The 75th U.S. Women’s Open will be the fifth USGA championship conducted on Champions Golf Club’s Cypress Creek course. The club previously hosted the 1969 U.S. Open, the 1993 U.S. Amateur, the 1998 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and the 2017 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur.

Champions Golf Club was founded in 1957 by World Golf Hall of Fame members Jack Burke Jr., who currently serves as president, and three-time Masters champion Jimmy Demaret. The Cypress Creek course was designed by Ralph Plummer and opened in 1959.

The U.S. Women’s Open is a walking-only, 72-hole stroke-play competition. There will be a 36-hole cut to the top 50 players and ties. The USGA accepted 1,552 entries for the 2019 U.S. Women’s Open at the Country Club of Charleston (S.C.), which was won by Jeongeun Lee6 of the Republic of Korea. The record of 1,873 entries was established for the 2015 championship at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club, which will again host the U.S. Women’s Open in 2024.

Considered the world’s premier women’s golf championship, the U.S. Women’s Open is one of 14 national championships conducted annually by the USGA. The championship began in 1946 and its winners include Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright, Hollis Stacy, Amy Alcott, Meg Mallon, Annika Sorenstam, Se Ri Pak, Juli Inkster, Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Inbee Park and Michelle Wie.
