Three of the top five finishers from last year will return to vie for the championship. In 2014, Josh Martin of Pinehurst became the youngest N.C. Amateur champion while his winning score of 14-under-par 270 was second best in the event's history.
This is the sixth CGA championship hosted by the Country Club of Landfall and second on the Nicklaus course. The Nicklaus Golf Course at the Country Club of Landfall consists of 27 holes, 18 from the original design opened in 1990 and a third nine which was completed in 2001. For the 55th N.C. Amateur, the front nine will be the Ocean course and the back nine will be the Marsh course. Designed to preserve and enhance the natural character of the land, the routing takes advantage of Landfall’s abundant saltwater and freshwater marshes as well as panoramic views of Howe’s Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway.
142 players are expected to compete in the 55th edition of the championship. Exempt players were automatically accepted while others were required to qualify through one of six 18 hole qualifiers.
