Jacksonville, NC- For the seventh year in a row Jacksonville Country Club will host the Jimmy Anderson Boys’ Invitational conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association. On March 28 and 29 some of the best junior golfers from both North and South Carolina will compete on the George Cobb design that is a par 72 that play just over 6,600 yards. This annual junior tournament was created in 2009 to honor Mr. Jimmy Anderson for his service as golf professional at Jacksonville CC as well as his years of dedication and support of junior golf. Jimmy Anderson was the head golf professional at Jacksonville Country Club for over 25 years and each Saturday morning conducted a junior golf clinic to help spread the game of golf to the next generation. During his tenure at Jacksonville CC he taught many juniors including Mallory Miller, the 1987 N.C. Junior Champion, and numerous future collegiate and golf professionals. 

 

The invitational started as a girls and boys event but since has been divided into separate events due to the popularity. The event will be a 36-hole stroke play tournament for junior male golfers between the ages of 13-18 who have not finished high school. The strong field includes last year’s runner up Davis Richards of China Grove, NC, who will be playing college golf for the Wolfpack of North Carolina State in the fall of 2015. Playing along with Richards in the 1:29 pm grouping is Christian Baliker of Simpsonville, SC, who finished tied for sixth in the 65^th Carolinas Junior Champions last July, as well as highly ranked NC junior Blake Taylor of Atkinson, NC.  Christian Salzer from Sumter, SC is the top ranked South Carolina junior in the field. Salzer has also committed to play his collegiate golf at North Carolinas State. He is paired with Patrick Stephenson of Four Oaks, NC and Logan Shuping of Salisbury, NC who both have verbally committed to play at East Carolina University in the fall of 2016 and are ranked in the top 20 in the state of North Carolina. Another player on the watch list is 2014 Carolinas Junior Player of the Year, Eric Bae of Pinehurst, NC. Bae is ranked second in the state according to the TYGA rankings, finished tied for third in last year’s event and has verbally committed to play college golf at Wake Forest University in 2016.

 

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.

Now in its 106th year, the CGA annually conducts 43 championships and five team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. It also runs over 140 One-Day (net and gross) events and qualifying for USGA national championships. The CGA serves golf in the Carolinas with numerous programs such as: the USGA Handicap System; tournament management software and support; course measuring and course/slope ratings; agronomy consultation; answers about the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, and Handicapping; Carolinas Golf Magazine; Interclub series; Tarheel Youth Golf Association; Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame; expense assistance for USGA Junior and Girls' Junior qualifiers from the Carolinas; and the Carolinas Golf Foundation (CGF). The CGF has distributed more than $1,500,000 since 1977 to benefit Carolinas' golf initiatives including turf grass research along with junior and women's programs.
