Pat Brogden Wins 4th Carolinas Women's Senior Title
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Final round results of the 16th Carolinas Women’s Senior Amateur Championship hosted by Governors Club (Lakes-Foothills) on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 Par 36—36---72 5659 yards (Course/Slope Rating: 72.7/131).
Beginning the final round with a one-shot lead, it took grit and focus from Pat Brogden, of Garner, N.C. to complete a wire-to-wire win for her fourth Carolinas Women’s Senior Amateur trophy and ninth CGA overall championship. The course played five-shots tougher than round one and Brogden was no exception. Her seven-over-par 79 was four-shots worse than yesterday for a two-day total of 10-over-par 154.
Angela Stewart, of Greenville, N.C. finished in second, two-shots back at twelve-over-par 156. Both Brogden and Stewart carded just one birdie in the final round. Stewart missed a four-foot par putt on the final hole that could have forced a playoff. Last month both women qualified for match play at the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship. Stewart made it to the Round of 32 and Brogden to the Round of 16.

The Carolinas Women’s Senior Amateur is open to Carolinas women ages 50 and older. In the Super Senior division, for women ages 65 and older, Peggy Yountz, of Denver, N.C. won with a two-day total of 22-over-par 166.
Defending champion Patty Moore, of Charlotte, N.C. finished with a two-day total of 17-over-par 161 which topped the Championship-2 flight. After opening the championship with an 83, Moore’s 78 tied for the day’s best round with Kim Briele, of New Bern, N.C.

The Carolinas Women’s Senior is one of 40 championships conducted annually by the Carolinas Golf Association, which is in its 105th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
