Two Teams Stand Atop NC Four-Ball Leaderboard
RALEIGH, N.C. – First round results of the 19th North Carolina Four-Ball Championship hosted by North Ridge Country Club (Lakes Course) in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday, October 3, 2014 (6688 yards, par 36-36—72, 72.9/134).
The teams of Preston Edmondson, Morrisville & Eric Brady, Cary and Dustin Moore, Greensboro & Blair Bowland, Burlington each fired an eight-under par 64 to share a one shot lead after 18 holes at North Ridge Country Club.
Edmondson-Brady carded six birdies and an eagle including a back nine six-under 30 en route to their round of 64.
Moore-Bowland turned to the back nine standing at only one-under par for the round. Starting with the 12th hole, Moore caught fire by carding five birdies and an eagle on his own ball during that final seven hole stretch to vault the duo into a share for the lead.
Half of last year’s winning team returned to defend the title. Dave Boyce, Jr., of Charlotte partnered with Dermot McElhennon, of New Bern and posted an opening round 68 to stand in a tie for 11th place. Boyce’s partner from the 2013 championship, Daniel Claytor, turned professional.
The average score in round one was 70.6 with most of the day played in breezy conditions.
The championship is contested over 54-holes of four-ball stroke play. After Saturday’s round, the field of 60 teams will be cut to the low 30 scores and ties for the final round on Sunday. Second round tee times will begin Saturday at 8:00am from the 1st tee.

The North Carolina Four-Ball Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 13th birthday by October 3, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
This event is one of 40 championships conducted annually by the Carolinas Golf Association, which is in its 105th year of serving amateur golf in the Carolinas.
