Four Tied for Lead at Carolinas Amateur
GREENVILLE, SC (7/10/14) – First round results of the 100th Carolinas Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Greenville Country Club (Chanticleer) in Greenville, SC on Thursday, July 10, 2013 (6836 yards, par 36-36—72, 75.0/146).144 amateur golfers made their way to the Greenville Country Club (Chanticleer) today for the first round of the historic 100th Carolinas Amateur Championship. The 100th championship has returned to the locale where it was first played in 1910 at the San Souci Country Club in Greenville, SC which is now known as Greenville Country Club. The Chanticleer course is in prime championship condition due to the efforts of Course Superintendent Craig Harris and his staff. Greenville CC has hosted the Carolinas Amateur Championship on six previous occasions (1910, 25, 37, 72, 77, 2005).
Four players are tied for the lead after round one with matching scores of 69, 3-under par. They are defending champion Carter Jenkins of Raleigh, NC, Harrison D. Frye of Gastonia, NC; Zach Seabolt of Raleigh, NC and Jack Radley of Sanford, NC.
Following close behind the leaders are four players at 70: Patrick Langdon, Charlotte, NC; Julian Keur, Summerville, SC; Levi Grogan, Canton, NC; and Danny Pizetoski of Davidson, NC.
Play began under cloudy conditions but sunshine quickly replaced the clouds and the morning wave had perfect conditions for the balance of the morning. The afternoon wave was briefly interrupted by threatening weather as the players were called off the course as a storm cell passed through. Play resumed after a 1 hour delay at 4:50pm. The course weathered the storm in excellent condition and high quality play continued throughout the remainder of the round. All golfers were able to complete their opening round play.
The second round of the championship will commence on Friday morning with tee times beginning at 8:00am off the #1 and #10 tees. The Championship is conducted at 72 holes of stroke play. At the conclusion of the second round the field will be cut to the low 60 scores plus ties and re-paired according to score for Saturday’s third round.
