Oak Island Golf Club is more than just a course to Walker Isley — it’s home. 

Living 600 yards from the ocean on one side and the clubhouse on the other, golf became intertwined in Isley’s daily routine from a young age. 

His father, Steve Isley, works as Oak Island’s head golf professional and as a kid, Walker could head out on the course most days after school. 

“I probably wouldn’t play golf if it weren’t for him,” Walker said.

Golf started as a way to spend time with his father and grandfather, but in just over a year, Garrett Risner will turn it into his career. 

Although Risner’s competitive golf aspirations started later than most when he decided to hang up his soccer cleats and basketball shoes, he fell in love with the grind of the game and actually enjoyed practicing. 

“I was not highly recruited out of high school,” Risner said. “I was a late bloomer.”

From South Africa to the 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship golf has taken Megan Streicher around the world. 

She grew up caddying for her parents before picking up a club of her own when she was 11. That sounds backwards, yes, but it provided Streicher with a different perspective from the game early on in her development.
