48th CAROLINAS FATHER-SON AND 17TH PARENT-CHILD CHAMPIONSHIPS - JULY 25, 2014
WEST END, NC (7/22/14) - The 48th Carolinas Father-Son and the 17th Carolinas Parent-Child Championships will take place on Friday, July 25 at five Pinehurst, NC area courses. A popularly attended event, the Father-Son and Parent-Child championships have become a tradition for many teams. The Father-Son Championship has many divisions extending from 13 & Under, Super Senior, Open (Pro-Am), and Amateur to allow for play in almost every age and skill group.
The championships are contested at 18 holes of modified alternate shot. Each team plays alternate shot except that both team members hit from each tee and then select the ball to be played for the remainder of the hole (modified alternate shot). A team must complete the hole with the ball selected.
Father-Son Championship
For the Father-Son Championship, entry is open to any team comprised of a father and son, stepfather and stepson, or grandfather and grandson or a similar combination of in-laws. At least one member of each team must be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas, be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA), have a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club.
Teams in the Father-Son championship select the division in which to compete if eligible:
Amateur Division: Team comprised of two amateurs. Overall champions are determined from this division. Gross scores only. Flights and course assignments are determined by team handicap* index. Both team members play the same yardage.
13 & Under Division: Team comprised of two amateurs. One amateur must be between the ages of 8 to 13 years old. 13 & Under team member plays a shorter yardage. Gross scores only. A trophy and merchandise is awarded to the overall winner. A 13 and under team may choose to compete in the Amateur Division but both team members must play from the same yardage.
Super Senior Division: Team comprised of two amateurs. One amateur must be at least 65 years old. 65 and over team member plays a shorter yardage. Gross scores only.
Open (Pro-Am) Division: Team comprised of one golf professional and one amateur (or an amateur awaiting reinstatement “A/R”). Open division competes at gross and net. Net scores are calculated using 40% of the amateur partners' course handicap. Golf professionals play at scratch handicap. 13 & Under team member plays a shorter yardage.
*Team handicap index is computed by adding 2/3 of the lower handicap index to 1/3 of the higher handicap index.
