Reigning Champions Detweiler and Simson Take the NC Super Senior Four-Ball Lead

 

GREENVILLE, N.C. (March 29, 2021) -- First round results of the 4th North Carolina Super Senior Four-Ball Championship at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C. on March 29, 2021. The 65+ Division is competing at 5,922 yards and the 70+ Division is competing at 5,411 yards (par 35-36--71).

Don Detweiler and Paul Simson of Raleigh have taken an early lead at the 4th North Carolina Super Senior Four-Ball. The reigning champions capitalized on par 3s today, carding birdies on three out of four of them. Detweiler and Simson made eight birdies and two bogeys to finish with an outstanding 6-under-par, 65. The side has won nine CGA four-ball Championships (2008, 2010 and 2012 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball; 2009, 2013 and 2019 NC Senior Four-Ball; 2018 and 2019 Carolinas Super Senior Four-Ball; 2019 North Carolina Super Senior Four-Ball) and we can expect to see them play hard tomorrow as they try to earn their tenth.


The leaderboard is tight behind Detweiler and Simson with a four-way-tie for second position. Ed Donlin of Concord and Rick Kline of Pinehurst, Charlie Parks of Albemarle and Doug Owens of Asheboro, Cliff Seastrunk and Lennie Barton of Raleigh, and Todd Turner of Winston-Salem and Dickie Brewer of West End are tied at 3-under-par, 68 after the opening round.


Russ McLauchlan of Fuquay Varina and Terry Rathman of Gastonia tied the low round of the day at 6-under-par, 65 to lead the 70+ Division. The 2018 runners-up Robert Desjardins of Wilson and William Boles of Matthews are tied for second position with John Bunn of Apex and Raymond Davis of Raleigh at 2-under-par, 69 entering the final round tomorrow.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
