The 43rd Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship was contested at Catawba Country Club in June, but due to COVID-19 related issues, the Senior Division had to be postponed. The first round of the Senior Division of the Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship began this morning. Although based on the overnight forecast and tomorrow’s forecast predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms, the Senior Division of the championship was shortened to an 18-hole event. Therefore we were able to crown our Senior Division Champions after the first round today.
Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C. and Pat Brogden of Garner, N.C. captured the Senior Division of the 43rd Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship after a 3-under-par, 69 finish.
“I think we played pretty well together. We ham and egged it,” said Stewart. “If one of us was out of the hole a bit, we were still able to make pars and hold each other up.” The side was able to compensate for every bogey with a par with the exception of No. 10.
Even more impressively, Stewart carded two birdies and Brogden carded two birdies on four different holes. Brogden remarked, “We played really well today individually and complemented each other's game. I think four birdies is outstanding on this course. There just aren't that many out there to be had it seems like.”
A tie stakes second place with the side of Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C. and Lea Anne Brown of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. as well as Patty Moore and Toni Notaro of Pinehurst, N.C. carding 2-under-par, 70.
The CGA would like to extend a thank you to the members and staff of Catawba Country Club, specifically to PGA Professional Jason Akel, for their hospitality in hosting the Senior Division of the 43rd Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship. We would also like to thank the players and spectators for their understanding and adherence to the new COVID-19 tournament protocols.
