Top Teams at Carolinas Women's 4-Ball

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (August 5, 2016) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 39th Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C. from August 9-10.

This will be the first CGA championship conducted at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls. Named for Falls Creek, which winds its way through seven holes, the 160-acre Keowee Falls golf course stretches across mountainous terrain with numerous elevation changes, tree-lined fairways, streams, and ponds, all surrounded by woods and wildflowers.

52 teams will compete in the 39th edition of the championship. 2015 champion Courtney McKim of Raleigh, N.C. returns with a different partner, 8-time CGA champion Debbie Adams of Asheville, N.C. Adams won the 1999 championship with Brenda Corrie Kuehn.

Other notable teams:

  • 7-time CGA champion Mallory Hetzel of Waynesville, N.C. and 3-time CGA champ Lea Venable of Simpsonville, S.C. Both Hetzel and Venable have won two Carolinas Women's Four-Ball titles with different partners.

  • 2014 Carolinas Junior Girls' champion Jessica Spicer of Bahama, N.C. will team with 2014 South Carolina Junior Match Play champion Morgan Cox of Easley, S.C.

  • Member of the 2014 runner-up team, Chandler Case of Rock Hill, S.C., will partner this year with 2013 South Carolina Junior Match Play champion Cayla Smith of Easley, S.C.

  • James Madison University teammates Maddisen Cox of Easley, S.C., a rising junior, and rising sophomore Carley Cox of China Grove, N.C.

One of the top teams contending in the Senior Division will be 18-time CGA champion Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. and 2015 N.C. Senior Women's champ Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C. Moore has won the overall Carolinas Women's Four-Ball title five times. Briele is also a past champion, winning in 2001. While they are not eligible for the overall championship, CGA Senior Women's Player of the Year points will be awarded to teams in the senior division.

FORMAT
The championship is conducted at 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. All players regardless of Handicap Index have the option to play the Championship Division, the Carolinas Division (approximately 5200 yards), or the Senior Division (approximately 5200 yards). The Senior Division will be comprised of teams in which both players have reached their 50th birthday by August 9, 2016.

This competition will include gross scores only. Only players in the Championship Division will be eligible for overall champion. Teams will be preflighted within their division based on the combined team Handicap Index

Approximate yardage:
Championship Division = 6000 yards
Tournament Division = 5200 yards
Senior Division = 5200 yards

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 13th birthday by August 9, 2016, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.

CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE
Tuesday, August 9
First round. 18 holes of four-ball stroke play (tee times).

Wednesday, August 10
Final round. 18 holes of four-ball stroke play (shotgun).
Awards luncheon immediately following completion of play


About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
