North Carolina's USGA Women's State Team Reps

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (September 7, 2017) -- The United States Golf Association (USGA) will conduct the 12^th and final USGA Women’s State Team Championship at The Club at Las Campanas (Sunset Course) in Santa Fe, New Mexico on September 26-28. The course is a Jack Nicklaus Signature design, consistently rated among the very top courses in New Mexico.

This biannual national championship began in 1995 as part of the USGA's Centennial celebration and is contested on the even years for men and odd years for women. The championships are open to players from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. After being contested 12 times each for men and women, the State Team Championships are being retired after this year.  

State associations may use any criteria of their choosing in selecting their teams, which are comprised of three amateur, non-college golfers. NCAA rules forbid any current players from participating. The event will be a 54-hole stroke play championship, with two of the lowest three individual scores counting for each round.

The North Carolina lineup is selected by the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) while the South Carolina team is determined by the Women's South Carolina Golf Association. In 2015, North Carolina finished 10th. Team North Carolina's non-playing captain is Maggie Weder of Greenville, who has previously served as a captain and represented the state as a player in the championship. North Carolina's best finish came in 2003 when the team of Shannon Ogg, Patty Moore, and Brenda Corrie Kuehn finished second.

NORTH CAROLINA

Sarah Bae, 23, of Pinehurst: First State Team selection. Having recently completed her playing eligibility at North Carolina State University, the 9th ranked female amateur golfer in North Carolina was a three-time N.C. Junior Girls' Player of the Year. Bae captured the 2016 Carolinas Young Amateur for her sixth CGA title. This year, Bae placed ninth in the Harder Hall Women's Invitational and qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Hannah Craver, 22, of Winston-Salem: First State Team selection. A recent graduate of Appalachian State University, she is ranked 13th in the state. This year Craver advanced to the quarterfinals of the Carolinas Women's Match Play and placed 13th at the Carolinas Women's Amateur.

Courtney McKim, 27, of Raleigh: Second State Team selection, played on the 2015 team that finished 10th. The top ranked female in North Carolina, McKim is a former collegiate golfer at Oklahoma State and Alabama. In 2017 McKim finished second at the North Carolina Women's Golf Association Amateur, advanced to the Round of 16 at both the Carolinas Women's Match Play and Doherty Women's Amateur, and had top 10 finishes at the Women's Trans National and Carolinas Women's Amateur championships. Last month, McKim made it to Stage II of LPGA Qualifying School.
