Shawn and Lea Venable Capture Mixed Team in Playoff

Myrtle Beach, SC – Final results of the 8th Carolinas Mixed Team Championship hosted by Myrtlewood Golf Club, PineHills course, on Sunday, September 1, 2013.  Par 36-36---72. 

Shawn and Lea Venable of Simpsonville, SC fired two rounds of 3-under par 69---138 (-6) to capture their first Carolinas Mixed Team Championship crown. The Venables were able to convert a par putt on the 2nd hole of sudden death in a playoff against Scott Adams of Asheville, NC and Terrie Allemang of Hilton Head, SC.  The final day format was changed to modified alternate shot for the first time in the championship’s history.  “Par is your friend in this type of format,” Shawn Venable said. “We were able to work well together and managed to squeak out a few birdies along the way.  It was a lot of fun,” said Lea (Venable). 

Scott Adams of Asheville, NC paired up with Terrie Allemang of Hilton Head, SC and shot an impressive 6-under 67 in the final round alternate shot format.  “We had it going but just left a few putts out there,” the younger Adams family member said.  “I just kept wondering what my parents were out there doing,” laughed Scott.  Ironically, Scott Adams is the son of six time Carolinas Mixed Team Champions Anthony and Debbie Adams of Asheville, NC who finished in third place. 

In the tournament division, Todd and Cass Manley of Charleston, SC shot a 5-under par 139 to win by four strokes over Mike and Lisa Holland of Rocky Mount, NC. 

The senior division was captured by David and Cynthia Andereck of Mt. Pleasant, SC.  The duo shot a 1-over par 145 to win by two shots over two other teams. These divisions play a shorter course.
