10th Jimmy Anderson Boys' set for April 14-15, 2018

 

The Jacksonville Country Club Board of Directors and the Carolinas Golf Association have announced the dates for the tenth annual Jimmy Anderson Boys’ Invitational to honor Mr. Jimmy Anderson for his service as golf professional at Jacksonville Country Club and his dedication and support of junior golf.

 

The event will be a 36-hole stroke play tournament for junior male golfers from North Carolina and South Carolina between the ages of 13-18 who have not finished high school. The tournament will be contested April 14-15, 2018 at Jacksonville Country Club in Jacksonville, N.C.

Non-invited players will have the opportunity to earn an invitation into the tournament field by qualifying on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Siler City CC in Siler, City, N.C. A minimum of ten spots will be available through the qualifier. Registration for all competitors opens on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 8 p.m.

An anticipated field of 84 junior golfers from across the Carolinas will compete on the George Cobb designed course that opened for play in 1954 and has hosted numerous tournaments, including the Carolinas Golf Association’s 2007 North Carolina Mid-Amateur. This annual junior golf tournament is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association.

 

Jimmy Anderson was the head golf professional at Jacksonville Country Club for over 25 years.  Each Saturday morning, he conducted a junior golf clinic to help spread the game of golf to the next generation. During his tenure at Jacksonville CC, he taught many juniors including Mallory Miller, the 1987 N.C. Junior Champion and numerous future collegiate and golf professionals. Not only did he teach the game of golf, but was always there with a helpful word of encouragement to any young golfer.

FORMAT
The tournament format is 36 holes of stroke play in one division.
 

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer 13 to 18 years of age of April 15, 2018, who is a legal resident of NC or SC, who has not started college (class of 2018 and higher) and who has current USGA handicap of 15.0 or lower.

            Qualifying for non-invited players at Siler City CC in Siler City, NC

 

Saturday, April 14, 2018

            First round of stroke play (18 holes) with starting times beginning at 12:00 pm on both the first and tenth tees.

            Tournament cookout for volunteers, players and parents at 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm.

 

Sunday, April 15, 2018

            Breakfast buffet for volunteers, players and parents from 7:00 am – 9:00 am.

            Second round of stroke play (18 holes) with starting times beginning at 8:00 am of both the first and tenth tees.

            *Players will be repaired for round 2 based on round 1 scores.

            Awards ceremony at scoreboard at approximately 2:30 pm.
 

PRIZES
Trophies will be awarded to the top 6 places.
