Boys’ Round of 64 Results
The Round of 64 started with an upset in true “March Madness” fashion, with 64 seed Tag Graziano of Hilton Head, S.C., upsetting number one seed Trey Cathuen of Simpsonville S.C., 2 and 1. Graziano, the last player to book his ticket into the Boys’ Match Play bracket, won a 5-for-1 playoff yesterday afternoon to clinch his spot, and he made the most of it Wednesday morning.
The three other co-medalists of the tournament held their ground in the Round of 64, with number two seed Luke Block of Bluffton, S.C, winning his morning match 3 and 2, number three seed Zach Adams of Charleston, S.C., winning his match 6 and 5, and number four seed Simon Wright of Lancaster, S.C., cruising to a 6 and 4 victory in his first match of the championship.
However, upsets were still aplenty in the Round of 64. Along with Graziano’s bracket busting win, the 58th seed Jake Delbusse of Surfside Beach, S.C., won his match 5 and 4, 56 seed Benjamin Mills of Fort Mill, S.C., won his match 2 up, and the 54th seed Wyatt Harrill of Chapin, S.C., came away with a gritty 2 up victory in his morning match.
In the Round of 32 Graziano continued his impressive play, winning his second round matchup 2 and 1 to move into the Quarter-Finals. Lancaster’s own Simon Wright moved into the Quarters as well, using all of his knowledge of his home club of Lancaster to propel him to the second day.
Delbusse joines Graziano as well as one of the only two players seeded above 50 to move into the second day of the South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship, He won his second round matchup in decisive fashion, with a 5 and 4 victory.
Girls’ Round of 16 Results
On the girls side of things, seven of eight matches finished with the higher seed advancing to the Quarter-Finals. Number one seed Hannah Altman of Lake City, S.C., cruised to a 3 and 2 victory, and number two seeded Skye Two Hawks Skenandore of Aiken, S.C., rocketed out to a 7 and 5 win.
The lone upset of the Round of 16 came when 10 seeded Katherine Mann of Fort Mill, S.C., came away with an impressive 3 and 2 victory in her first match of the championship.
Four seeded Madison Dixon of Boiling Springs, S.C., came away with a narrow 1 up victory over Emma Hunt of Lake City, S.C., after some final hole heroics. After pulling her drive left into the trees on the 18th at Lancaster Golf Club, Dixon punched out to leave herself a flip wedge into the green.
A chip that came up short would leave her a fifteen footer for par. Dixon willed in her putt with the flatstick, and booked her own one way ticket into a Quarter-Final matchup with Maddie Peake of Pauline, S.C.

Lancaster Golf Club is located right on the outskirts of the town of Lancaster. The original nine holes were designed by Donald Ross in 1939, and feature a more open setup. Russell Breeden’s work on the back nine to finish the course is highlighted by tree lined fairways, giving a different look and challenge to players of all levels.
The championship format is match play with 18 holes of stroke play qualifying to determine the seeding for match play. The top 64 boys and the top 16 girls from the stroke play qualifier will advance to match play. Once a player loses a match, they are eliminated from the tournament.
