Preview: 95th Carolinas Women’s Amateur

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 8, 2021) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 95th Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship at Rolling Hills Country Club in Monroe, N.C. from June 10 - 12, 2021. The Championship Division will compete at 6,271 yards and the Carolinas Division will compete at 5,386 yards (par 36-36--72).

Players to Watch in the Field:

• Anna Morgan of Spartanburg, S.C. is the defending champion and is ranked No. 6 in the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Rankings. Morgan took home the title last year with a final round score of 68, winning by two strokes over Duke University’s Gina Kim and Morgan Ketchum of Winston-Salem, N.C. The rising college junior currently plays for the Furman University Paladins. Ketchum kicked off the year by winning the 12th Carolinas Young Amateur in January.

• Nicole Adam of Pinehurst, N.C. is ranked No. 9 in the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Rankings. Adam is a rising sophomore on the women’s golf team at the University of North Carolina. Adam finished in fifth at last year’s Carolinas Women’s Amateur and tied for fourth at the 12th Carolinas Young Amateur.

• Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. is ranked No. 10 in the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Rankings. Tindal was a senior on the women’s golf team at the College of Charleston and finished in sixth at the 12th Carolinas Young Amateur and in the top 20 at last year’s Carolinas Women’s Amateur. 

• Mallory Fobes of East Bend, N.C. is ranked No. 12 in the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Rankings. Fobes is a rising junior on the women’s golf team at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and finished in sixth at last year’s Carolinas Women’s Amateur and tied for eighth at the 12th Carolinas Young Amateur.

• Kelley Topiwala of Pinehurst, N.C. is ranked No. 13 in the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Rankings. Topiwala is a rising sophomore on the women’s golf team at Samford University and placed third at the 12th Carolinas Young Amateur. Recently, Topiwala made it to the Round of 32 in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball. 

• Kathryn Carson of Mooresville, N.C. is ranked No. 18 in the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Rankings. Carson was a senior on the women’s golf team this spring at East Carolina University. In her first year at ECU, Carson was named American Athletic Conference Freshman-of-the-Year. Carson tied for seventh at last year's Carolinas Women’s Amateur and tied for sixth at the 43rd Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship.

Rolling Hills Country Club features a classic George Cobb-designed golf course which was built in 1963. With a traditional design, the golf course features reachable par 5s and challenging par 3s. The Carolinas Women's Amateur Championship was inherited by the Carolinas Golf Association from the Carolinas Women's Golf Association in 2013. The championship began in 1922 and annually crowns the women's amateur champion of the Carolinas.

The Championship is conducted at 54 holes of stroke play with a Championship Division and Carolinas Division (shorter course). This competition includes gross scores only in both divisions. Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index®.
