Preview: 27th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (September 24, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 27th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship at Keith Hills Golf Club (Orange-Black) in Buies Creek, N.C. from September 25 - 27, 2020. The field will compete at 6,717 yards, par 72.

Players to Watch:

Joe Jaspers of Huntersville, N.C. is the only past N.C. Mid-Am Champion in the field after his victory in 2014. More recently, Jaspers tied for seventh at the 2019 N.C. Four-Ball Championship and finished 34th at the Carolinas Amateur Championship this year.

Dan Walters of Winston-Salem, N.C. was the runner-up in the 2019 N.C. Four-Ball Championship and since then he made it to the Quarterfinals at the Carolinas Four-Ball Championship this year and tied for 15th at the Carolinas Amateur Championship.

David Gies of Pineville, N.C. was the lowest scoring amateur and overall runner-up last month at the Carolinas Open to jump up to the No. 30 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Men’s Amateur Rankings. In this event last year he tied for 10th position.

Timothy Driver of Holly Springs, N.C. has had a great track record this summer starting off tied for 17th at the North Carolina Amateur Championship. Then Driver finished in 14th at the Carolinas Amateur Championship and finished off the summer making it to the Round of 16 at the North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship.

Thomas Owen of Fayetteville, N.C. tied for fourth in this event last year and is coming back to try and take the title this year. Recently, Owen tied with Timothy Driver for 17th at the North Carolina Amateur Championship in June.
Opened in 1954, the course at the Keith Hills Golf Club features 6,717 yards of a tranquil and picturesque landscape overlooking the banks of the Cape Fear River. This Ellis Mapes-designed course features a par-72 layout surrounded by luscious trees and beautiful views of the river. The course has a unique set up with three 9-hole courses, and this year's North Carolina Mid-Amateur will be played with an Orange-Black routing to create an 18-hole course for the event.

The championship format is 54 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scorers and ties. A tie for the overall championship is decided by an on-course playoff.
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 25 th birthday by September 25, 2020, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 10.4.
