Long Leads Carolinas Super Senior
KINSTON, N.C. (September 1, 2020) -- First round results of the 12th Carolinas Super Senior Championship at Kinston Country Club in Kinston, N.C. on September 1, 2020. The Championship Division is competing at approximately 6,100 yards. The 70+ Division is competing at approximately 5,550 yards. (36-35--71)

Championship Division
Evan Long of Charlotte, N.C. has taken the early lead in the Carolinas Super Senior Championship, finishing the first round at 3-under-par, 68.
Long got off to a hot start going 2-under through the front nine. However the back nine brought some challenges. He bogeyed No. 10, but was able to save it with a birdie on No. 12. From there, Long finished strong with birdies on Nos. 15 and 17.
The reigning North Carolina Super Senior Champion has the lead by just one stroke with a stacked leaderboard behind him.
Two-time Carolinas Super Senior Champion, Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C. and Ed Donlin of Concord, N.C. have tied for second at 2-under, 69 heading into the final round tomorrow.
“I putted really well. When I didn’t hit the green, I made it up and down,” said Donlin. “I scrambled extremely well today too.”
Dennis Helms of North Myrtle Beach, S.C. shot the only other under-par, opening round in the Championship Division today carding 1-under-par, 70.
70+ Division
Jack Marin of Durham, N.C. leads the 70+ Division by two strokes, carding an outstanding 4-under-par, 67 opening round. Marin made a staggering six birdies on the day.
Pete Allen of Southport, N.C. shot 2-under, 69 to earn second place heading into the final round tomorrow. While last year’s 70+ division runner-up, Robert Desjardins of Matthews, N.C. is just one stroke back from Allen at 1-under-par, 70.
The 12th Carolinas Super Senior Championship will resume tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. with tee times running until 2:50 p.m.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
The CGA annually conducts 48 championships and five team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. It also runs over 150 One-Day (net and gross) events as well as qualifying for USGA national championships. The CGF has distributed nearly $2,000,000 since 1977 to benefit Carolinas' golf initiatives including junior and women's programs.
