Carolinas Team Sweeps Round 1 of Mid-Atlantic Girls' Matches

 

DANVILLE, VA. (August 8, 2020) -- Four-ball results of the 19th Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls’ Challenge Matches at Danville Golf Club in Danville, Va. on August 8, 2020. (5,935 yards; Par 35-35—70)

Four matches of four-ball were played today for the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Junior Girls’ Challenge Matches and the Carolinas team finished on top of each one. Not a single player saw the eighteenth green today. While the Carolinas Team had a strong opening round, the challenge matches are far from over considering tomorrow’s competition offers up twice as many points as today. With eight singles matches to round out the event, the Carolinas team needs to win at least two points to retain the trophy and hold the title for the fifth year in a row. The head-to-head competition will be fierce tomorrow and tee times will start at 8:00 a.m.

Format: Match play team competition of junior girls from Maryland and Virginia versus junior girls from North Carolina and South Carolina. Players compete in four-ball matches in the first round and singles matches in the second round. Each match is worth one point. The Carolinas Team needs 6 points to retain the cup and the Virginia/Maryland team needs 6.5 points to win.
