At the inaugural Daniel Meggs Memorial Junior, over 100 junior golfers came out to support and play in honor of Daniel. It was a day of celebrating Daniel’s life, with the sport he loved most.
“This was just such a great way to honor Daniel, and his legacy and him loving and teaching the youth. This was the perfect way to honor him going forward,” Jordan Meggs said.
For the overall championship, and Boys’ 16-18 Flight, Chris Hoefling of Charlotte, N.C. had a career best of 4-under-par, 68.
In the 11 & under flight, William Moody of Charlotte, N.C. took home the title at 1-over-par, 36. In the Boys’ 12-13 Flight, tied for first place was Will Guthrie of Charlotte, N.C. and Aston Lee of Charlotte, N.C. with a final score of 3-under-par, 69. In the Boys’ 14-15 Flight, Ethan Wooten came in at one-under-par, 71 to take home the title. In the Girl’s 16-18 Flight, Sophie Marijono of Charlotte, N.C. won at 10-over-par, 82. “This is about Daniel, he wanted to grow golf, and he was doing that. We just want to honor him just for what he did and I’m just happy I could be a part of it,” Harold Varner lll, longtime friend of Meggs said.
The CGA would like to extend a thank you to the members and staff of Providence Country Club, the Meggs Family, and the HVlll Foundation for their hospitality in hosting the inaugural Daniel Meggs Memorial Junior. We are excited for the years to come of honoring Daniel. We would also like to thank the players and spectators for their understanding and adherence to the new COVID-19 tournament protocols.
