Preview: 2020 SC Junior Match Play Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 4, 2020) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 2020 South Carolina Junior Match Play Championship at the Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. from July 7-10, 2020. The Boys’ division will compete at approximately 6,800 yards, par 72. The Girls’ division will compete at approximately 5,600 yards, par 72.

Players to watch:

 

Girls’ Division

• Adrian Anderson of Murrells Inlet, S.C. has placed in the top-10 for an astonishing 23 out of 28 tournaments in the last year. With a win at the WSCGA Junior Girls’ Championship, Anderson is now the No. 6 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings. 

• Kayleigh Reinke of Rock Hill, S.C. made it to the semifinals in this event last year and since then she has won the Jimmy Self Invitational, the Jack and AAA Upper State. Reinke is the No. 15 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.

• Sydney Roberts of Chesnee, S.C. is the No. 25 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings with wins at the Lady Patriot Invitational and the Morgan Lucas Championship. 

• Mia Gray of Conway, S.C. has had seven top-5 finishes out of her last 13 starts. Gray claimed the title at the 2019 Myrtle Beach Chapter at Burning Ridge and is looking for the win again just five minutes down the road at the Hackler Course this week. Gray is the No. 39 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ Rankings.

 

Boys’ Division

• Mason Tucker of Lancaster, S.C. is the reigning South Carolina Junior Match Play Champion in the Boys’ Division. Tucker also claimed the Jimmy Anderson and Blade Junior championships over the last year. He is the No. 19 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. 

• Matthew Hutto of Blythewood, S.C. earned four big wins in the last year including the 2019 Columbia Chapter at Oak Hills CC, Columbia Chapter Members Club at Wildwood, Tommy Cuthbert All-Stars and the Charles Tilghman Junior. With an incredible year, Hutto now holds the No. 13 rank in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. 

• Zach Adams of Charleston, S.C. tied for second last week at the Future Masters to secure his spot as the No. 3 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. 

• William Phipps of Florence, S.C. was the runner-up in this event last year and has won the 2019 Florence Chapter at Lake City CC, SCJGA Florence CC and Florence Chapter at Cheraw State Park since then. Phipps is the No. 67 ranked golfer in the Carolinas Junior Boys’ Rankings. 

 

The championship format is match play with 18 holes of stroke play qualifying to determine the seeding for match play. The top 64 boys and the top 16 girls from the stroke play qualifier will advance to match play. Once a player loses a match, they are eliminated from the tournament.

 

Entry is open to any male or female amateur golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday by July 7, 2020, who has not started college, is a legal resident of South Carolina, is a member or their parent is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA handicap index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 18.4.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
