Castle-Kuehn Dominate in Record-Breaking Championship Win

Jensen Castle of West Columbia, S.C. and Rachel Kuehn of Asheville, N.C. dominated during their time at the 43rd Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball Championship. The duo teamed up to break the championship’s all-time scoring record with a 16-under-par, 128 total performance at Catawba Country Club.

 

“I think we both played pretty solidly. We ham and egged really well,” Kuehn said after the round. “When I was out of the hole making bogey, she was on the green tight for birdie. We were just talking about it. We did a great job of evening out. We both went 4-under-par each day, so we really did balance each other well.”

 

“It wasn’t like one person contributed more than the other,” Castle added. “There were points in the round when one person wasn’t helping a ton, but we evened out and both helped out over the course of the day.”

 

Castle and Kuehn were not forced to take a bogey in either of their two rounds, and in today’s final round, they were able to post eight birdies on the scorecard, an even four from each member of the team.

 

“Four-ball is such a game of momentum,” Kuehn said. “I think I get more hype for other people’s birdies than I do my own. We were definitely feeding off of each other’s energy today.”

 

Defending champions Emma Charles of Hartsville, S.C. and Victoria Hall of Moore, S.C. finished tied for second with Brooke Hutto of Spartanburg, S.C. and Napatthorn Paksanont of Aiken, S.C. at 10-under-par, 134 total.

 

Kuehn, who is following in her mother’s footsteps becoming a Carolinas Women’s Four-Ball champion, said that winning this tournament means a little bit more as she attempts to make up ground on her mom’s career.

 

Next up for both Castle and Kuehn is the North & South Women’s Amateur Championship July 12-18 at Pinehurst Resort, before Kuehn takes her game to the Women’s Western National Amateur Championship July 20-25. They will then reconvene July 27-29 at the Ladies National Amatuer Championship.

About the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)

The CGA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1909 to promote and to protect the game of golf in the Carolinas by providing competitions, education, support and benefits to golf clubs and golfers. The CGA is the second largest golf association in the country with over 700 member clubs represented by nearly 150,000 individuals.
