Preview: 2019 Father-Son/Parent-Child

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 17, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 53rd Carolinas Father-Son and 22nd Carolinas Parent-Child Championship at Pinehurst Area Courses in Pinehurst, N.C. on July 19, 2019.

53rd Carolinas Father-Son Championship:

A total of 318 teams will compete in 12 divisions at five championship sites for the 53rd Carolinas Father-Son Championship. The overall champion will be determined at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club. Other host clubs include Legacy Golf Links, Longleaf Golf and Family Club, Country Club of Whispering Pines (Pines), and Pinehurst Country Club (No.1).

Nicholas Adams of Dudley, N.C. and Stan Adams of Goldsboro, N.C. won in a playoff last year after an impressive 3-under-par, 69. They are looking to defend their title this year at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club.

Each team plays alternate shot except that both team members hit from each tee and then select the ball to be played (modified alternate shot). A team must complete the hole with the ball selected

Entry is open to any team comprised of a father and son, stepfather and stepson, father-in-law and son-in-law or grandfather and grandson. At least one member of each team must: 1.be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas; 2.be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN®USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club oris a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club. Pro-Pro teams are NOT eligible.

22nd Carolinas Parent-Child Championship:

Jon and Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, N.C.will be competing to defend their title at the 22nd Parent-Child Championship at Foxfire Resort, N.C. The team took home the title with four-under-par, 68.

Two pairs finished in second place, one stroke behind the winners; Macie and Jeff Burcham of Greensboro, N.C. and Michael and Virginia Mayer of Pinehurst, N.C. Three pairs were tied for fourth position at two-under-par, 70. Sean and Maci Beaver of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., Frank and Makalyn Poole of Williamston, S.C. and Tom and Kathryn Carson of Mooresville, N.C.

Previous Champions in the Field include:

• 2018: Jon and Madison Isaacson of Greensboro, N.C. 

• 2015 and 2014: Kevin and Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C.

Entry is open to any team comprised of a parent and child, regardless of age in any gender combination, excluding male-male. Step-parents, grandparents and in-laws are eligible. At least one member of each team must be 1) be a legal resident of one of the Carolinas 2) be a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and have an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club or is a golf professional employed at a CGA member club. A team is eligible if one partner is an amateur member of a CGA member club or if one partner is a golf professional employed by a CGA member club. Pro-Pro teams are not eligible.
