Preview: 53rd Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship

 

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 25, 2019) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 53rd Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship at Rolling Hills Country Club in Monroe, N.C. from June 26-27, 2019.

Players to watch:

• Alexis Sudjianto of Charlotte, N.C. is currently ranked No. 10 in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ rankings. Sudjianto recently finished T7 at the Carolinas Women’s Amateur Championship and was a Quarterfinalist at this year’s North Carolina Junior Girls’ Championship. Sudjianto’s sole CGA win came at the 2016 Carolinas Girls' 15 & Under Championship. Sudjianto is a member of the 2019 graduating class and will start her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon in the fall of 2019.

• Maria Atwood of Holly Springs, N.C. is currently ranked No. 11 in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ rankings. Atwood won the 62nd Carolinas Junior Girls’ Championship last June to claim her first CGA championship title. Atwood had an impressive showing at the was North Carolina Junior Girls’ Championship this month, but eventually lost the final match to Katherine Schuster. Atwood is a member of the 2022 graduating class.

• Chloe Holder of Williamston, S.C. took home the trophy at this past weekend’s WSCGA Junior Girls’ Championship. With her win, she earned a spot on the Carolinas Team in the Mid-Atlantic Girls’ Challenge Matches as well as a spot on the South Carolina team in the Georgia/South Carolina Junior Girls’ Matches. Holder is a member of the 2021 graduating class.

• Karlee Vardas of Lexington, S.C.is currently ranked No. 19 in the Carolinas Junior Girls’ rankings. Vardas finished third at the WSCGA Junior Girls’ Championship, which qualified her for the GA/SC Junior Girls’ Matches. Vardas is a member of the 2021 graduating class.

• Deborah Spair of Raleigh, N.C. was recently a semifinalist at the North Carolina Junior Girls Championship and she is looking to win her first CGA championship as she nears the end of her junior career. Spair is a member of the 2020 graduating class.

 

Rolling Hills Country Club offers 18 scenic holes designed by 2019 Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame Inductee and famed architect George W. Cobb in 1962. The 18 holes at Rolling Hills are surrounded by a serene lake and are known for their traditional design which features reachable par 5s and challenging par 3s. This will be the first Twin States Junior Girls’ Championship contested at Rolling Hills Country Club.

The championship format is 36 holes of stroke play competition.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer ages 12 to 18 as of June 27, 2019, who has not started college, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
