Three Tied at the Top Heading into the Final Round of the Carolinian Amateur

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (May 18, 2019) -- Second round results of the 4th Carolinian Amateur Championship at Keith Hills Golf Club in Buies Creek, N.C. on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Three sit at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round of the 4^th Carolinian Amateur.

Mark Olbrych of Columbia, S.C. shot the low round of the day with a 7-under-par, 65 making five birdies in his last six holes to pull into a tie for the lead at 8-under, 136 total.

“Well I honestly don’t know I just didn’t make any mistakes really,” said Olbrych. “I wasn’t hitting it all too great on the front and on the back I just started making putts.”

Brett McLamb of Coats, N.C. also entered into a tie for first after shooting 2-under-par, 70 in round two. McLamb, a member of the Campbell University Men’s Golf Team, has given himself a chance for a victory on home turf. McLamb’s finishes in the first three Carolinian Amateurs include a 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th place.

“As far as the round, I played solid,” said McLamb. “Had a few dumb bogeys, a few missed chips and a couple bad breaks. We just recovered and played steady the whole day. Did what we had to do to be in a good position for the last day.”

Our round-one leader, Fulton Smith of Pinehurst, N.C. struggled to follow up his 11-under-par, 61 but his 3-over-par, 75 in round two was good enough to give him a share of the lead after 36 holes.

“I came in with the same approach and obviously it didn’t turn out the same as the 61, but I felt good coming in. I just had a really rough start,” said Smith. “A couple bad breaks on 14 and 15. A couple lose swings and it cost me. That was just really hard to come back from.”

Sam Echikson of Charlotte, N.C. shot a 3-under-par, 69 in round two to put himself in fourth place going into the final round.

Our defending champion, Harry Reynolds of Greenville, S.C. is tied for fifth place with Tim Bunten of Concord, N.C. at 2-under-par, 142 after 36 holes.

The field has been cut to the low 70 and ties who shot 10-over-par,154 or better.
