Championship Preview: 25th N.C. Mid-Am
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (September 3, 2018) — The Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) will conduct the 25 th North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship at Ballantyne Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. from September 7-9. The championship is conducted at 54 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, there will be a cut to the low 60 scores and ties.

With a win at last year's championship held at High Point Country Club's Willow Creek Course in High Point, N.C., Scott Harvey of Kernersville, N.C. was able to match his father, Bill Harvey, with eight overall CGA titles. Harvey won the championship by nine strokes; the largest margin in the event's history (68-67-74--209).
Past champions in the field include two-time champion Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro, N.C. (2015 & 2016), Joe Jaspers of Huntersville, N.C. (2014), Jeff Allen of Jacksonville, N.C. (2013) and Brian Westveer of Charlotte, N.C. (2012).
Players to Watch
152 players are expected to compete in the 25th edition of the championship. Exempt players were automatically accepted while others were required to qualify through one of five 18 hole qualifiers.

Greg Earnhardt of Greensboro, N.C. is the only two-time champion in the field at the N.C. Mid-Amateur this year. Earnhardt was able to qualify for the USGA’s U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship this year with playing partner, Sherrill Britt.

John Pitt of Raleigh, N.C. won his second CGA championship earlier this summer by winning the 38th Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship by one shot at Treyburn Country Club in Durham, N.C. Pitt finished T5 in the 2017 N.C. Mid-Amateur. Pitt’s first CGA title came at the 2001 Carolinas Amateur Champion.

Daniel Neveu of Pinehurst, N.C., the No. 16 male amateur in the Carolinas finished T2 in the 2017 North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship. His results this summer include top-5 finishes at the North Carolina Amateur and the Triad Amateur Golf Classic. He also had top-20 finishes at the 2018 Carolinian and the 2018 Carolinas Open.

Kevin O’Connell of Cary, N.C. is the No. 7 male amateur in the Carolinas . O’Connell won the Monroe Invitational earlier this summer and finished T4 at the 2018 Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship.

Joe Jaspers of Huntersville, N.C. is the No. 34 male amateur in the Carolinas having finished T12 at the Carolinas Mid-Amateur, T9 at the N.C. Amateur and T29 at the Carolinas Amateur earlier this year.

John Eades of Charlotte, N.C. is the 2017 Carolinas Mid-Amateur champion. Earlier this year he finished T9 at the 2018 Carolinas Mid-Amateur.

Steven Brame of Henderson, N.C. finished runner-up to Earnhardt in 2016. Brame finished T25 at the Carolinas Amateur Championship earlier this summer at the Country Club of North Carolina’s Cardinal Course.

Entry Information
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 25th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 5.4.
The Rees Jones-designed Ballantyne Country Club, located in the heart of Charlotte’s Ballantyne Neighborhood, features Bermuda Grass Fairways, TifEagle Bermuda Grass Greens and Zeon Zoysia Tees.
Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates.
