Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Preview

Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. will be competing with her sister Jaelyn Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. in hopes of capturing the title at the 41st Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship at Prestwick Country Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. from August 4-5, 2018.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (July 31, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 41st Carolinas Women's Four-Ball Championship at Prestwick Country Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. from August 4-5, 2018.

Teams to watch:

Championship Division

  • Jaelyn and Jodee Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. will return to this year's field. The team of sisters finished T4 at last year's event after shooting even par. Jaelyn Tindal is a recent graduate of Mercer University and is currently ranked No. 30 among amateur female golfers in the Carolinas. Two-time CGA champion Jodee Tindal is currently ranked No. 11 among amateur female golfers in the Carolinas and is a rising sophomore at College of Charleston.

  • Three-time CGA champion Lea Venable of Simpsonville, S.C. will partner with Emily Cox of Lancaster, S.C. Venable, who is currently ranked No. 8 among female amateur golfers in the Carolinas, won the Carolinas Four-Ball in 2012 with partner Brooke Baker and in 2014 with partner Hayley Hammond. Cox is in search of her first CGA title since she won the Vicki DiSantis Girls' Championship in 2015.

  • Four-time CGA champion Gracyn Burgess of Lexington, S.C. will partner with Kennedy Gooding of Lexington, S.C. at this year's event. Burgess earned three CGA titles in 2017 and is currently the top-ranked junior girls golfer in South Carolina. Gooding has five top-five finishes so far in 2018 and is currently ranked No. 36 among junior girls golfers in South Carolina.

Senior Division

  • The team of 19-time CGA champion Patty Moore of Charlotte, N.C. and three-time CGA champion Kim Briele of New Bern, N.C. will return to this year's event. The duo lost in a playoff in the Senior Division at last year's event. Moore is currently ranked No. 2 among senior amateur female golfers in the Carolinas and has won the tournament five times, with the most recent title in 2011. Briele, who is currently ranked No. 3 among senior amateur female golfers in the Carolinas, is also a former champion and won the event in 2001.

  • 2017 senior division champion Angela Stewart of Greenville, S.C. will be partnering this year with Susan Beaupied of Pittsboro, N.C. Stewart, who is currently ranked No. 5 among senior amateur female golfers in the Carolinas, finished first at the event last year with her partner, Pat Brogden. Beaupied is currently ranked in the top-25 among amateur senior female golfers in the Carolinas and finished T7 at the event last year.

  • Three-time Carolinas Four-Ball champion Leigh Armentrout of Greensboro, N.C. will return to the field with partner with Linda Daniel of Huntersville, N.C. Armentrout won the event in 1987, 1989 and 1990.The duo competed at last year's event together and finished T3 and two shots back from the champions of the division.

  • Kathy Binkley of Cornelius, N.C. and Lisa Mooneyham of Graham, N.C. will look to recreate the magic that won the duo the title in 2000. Binkley is currently ranked No. 6 among senior amateur female golfers in the Carolinas and T2 at this year's North Carolina Senior Women's Amateur Championship. Mooneyham is a two time CGA champion and also won the Carolinas Women's Amateur in 1997. The team looks to improve on last year's performance where they finished ninth.

Prestwick Country Club is nestled in the heart of Myrtle Beach golf. The course, which spans almost 7,000 yards, was designed by Pete and P.B. Dye in 1989 after the classic Scottish tradition. The course surrounds a sparkling 20-acre freshwater lake and is located only one-quarter of a mile away from the ocean.

The championship is conducted at 36 holes of four-ball stroke play. All players have the option to play in the Championship Division (approximately 6,000 yards) or the Senior Division (approximately 5,200 yards). The Senior Division will be comprised of teams in which both players have reached their 50th birthday by August 4, 2018. The competition will include gross scores only. Only teams in the Championship Division will be eligible for overall champion and only teams in the Senior Division will be eligible for senior champion. Teams will be pre-flighted within their division based on combined team Handicap Index. A tie for Overall Champion and Senior Champion is determined by an on-course playoff. All other ties will be broken by scorecard playoff.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 13th birthday by August 5, 2018, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.

Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship, offering 9 and 18-hole updates. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s official Twitter account, @cgagolf1909.
