Carolinas Junior Girls Preview

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (June 20, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 62nd Carolinas Junior Girls' Championship at Croasdaile Country Club in Durham, N.C. from June 25-27, 2018.

Players to watch:

• 2016 champion Emily Hawkins of Lexington, N.C. joins the field and looks to earn her second CGA title of the summer. The rising freshman at Campbell University, who is currently ranked No. 3 among junior girls' golfers in North Carolina, won the 2018 North Carolina Junior Girls Championship just two weeks ago. Hawkins is a four-time CGA champion and won this event in 2016 after a one-hole playoff.

• Katherine Schuster of Kill Devil Hills, N.C. will also compete in this year's field. The rising high school sophomore has had an impressive start to the 2018 season. She won a national title in the girls 14-15 age group of the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship at Augusta National, won the PKB Orange Whip Classic and finished second at the PKB Tar Heel Classic. She also posted a 3-under-par 69 on the final day of the Vicki DiSantis Girls' Championship to finish in second place.

• Emily Dunlap of Greenville, S.C. returns to this year's field in hopes of better results. The rising high school senior, who is currently ranked No. 3 among junior girls' golfers in South Carolina, finished in first place at three SCJGA events in 2017: the Tradition Four-Ball, Cheraw Fall Challenge and Ford Picard Christmas Classic.

• Alexis Sudjianto of Charlotte, N.C. looks to capture her first title since the 2016 Girls 15 & Under Championship. The rising high school senior, who is currently ranked No. 18 among junior golfers in North Carolina, came close to her second CGA title at this year's North Carolina Junior Girls' Championship. After a stellar run in the championship, she was defeated by Emily Hawkins in her final match.

• Hailey Joy of Reidsville, N.C., who is currently ranked No. 7 among junior golfers in North Carolina, will try to earn her first CGA title since the the 2015 Carolinas Girls' 15 & Under Championship. The UNC Greensboro commit won the NCHSAA 3A Girls' State Championship in 2017.

• Sasha Hayes of Winston-Salem, N.C. looks to add another trophy to her shelf at this year's event. She had an exceptional year in 2017, winning the Dogwood State Girls Junior Championship and the NCHSAA 4A Girls' West Regional.
   

Croasdaile Country Club was established in 1966 by Drs. Frances and Herbert Fox on farmland inherited by Frances Fox's father. It was designed by George W. Cobb in 1966 and redesigned in 2002 by John LaFoy. The course provides a very private golf experience, and the course weaves across various levels of elevation and landscapes in the form of a butterfly with both nines returning to the clubhouse.

The format for this tournament is 54 holes of stroke play competition.

Entry is open to any female amateur golfer ages 12 to 18 as of June 27, 2018, who has not started college, maintains a residence in North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index at a CGA member club.
