Harrison Rhoades of Raleigh, N.C. left no doubt about who deserved to hoist the trophy at the 58th North Carolina Amateur Championship. Rhoades dominated all four days of the tournament, posting a 19-under-par, 269. That score ties the tournament record for fewest strokes and his winning margin of 13 strokes set a new record for the championship.

The leader after every round in the tournament, Rhoades said he knew he needed to keep it going or else someone would take over his spot. "After the first round, I felt like, 'Yeah, 64 is a great round, but someone's going to play great tomorrow.' So I had to keep on the gas and keep doing what I'm doing, and I felt like I was able to do that very well."

That is exactly what Rhoades did posting red numbers in all but one round, and that one round was still an even-par, 72 on day three.

"I think the third round was a little shaky," said the N.C. State junior, "I think having a seven shot lead halfway through the tournament was a tough thought, but an even-par round under that pressure I felt good with."

Rhoades finished the front nine today with a score of 32, making two birdies and holing out from the fairway on No. 7 for an eagle. "I had 90 yards which was just a perfect lob wedge, and it landed and bounced about two feet past and spun back," said Rhoades, "Everybody talks about number seven out here and I feel like I played it very well all week."

Rhoades gets his win on Father's Day, which he said made it extra special. "Dad's driven me to all the golf tournaments, paid for my lessons, so it feels good. Maybe I'll let him use my winnings for a shirt or something."

The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank River Landing for hosting the event. Thank you to all the club members and staff for allowing the use of their facilities and for all of their hard work throughout the tournament. A special thank you to Director of Golf and Head Professional, Larry George and Course Superintendent, Chris Humphrey.
