Gravley/Sill Steal Show at Senior Four-Ball
MORGANTON, NC (April 25, 2018) – First round results of the 50th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship at Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club in Morganton, NC on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 (6,480 yards, Par 36-36--72).

Cousins Mike Gravley of Greer, SC and Stan Sill of Spartanburg, SC posted a round of 11-under par 61 to hold a four-shot advantage after the first round of the 50th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball at Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club. The duo started hot with two birdies and an eagle in their first three holes en route to a front-nine total of 29. Even with a bogey coming in on the back-nine, the team finished strong with birdies on 17 and 18 to put a bow on the round of the day.
"Two eagles on the front got us off to a fast start," said Gravley. "Then we went birdie-birdie to start the back-nine." After a bogey on 16, Sill made birdie on 17 and Gravley birdied 18 to cap off the 11-under round. "We both played well and we both stayed in it together," said Gravley. This is the first four-ball tournament for the pair as Sill just turned 55 on April 19. Sill contributed four birdies and an eagle while Gravley matched him with the same.
Two teams sit four shot back of Gravley and Sill at seven-under 65. Playing in the same group in the morning, and matching rounds 34-31 were the teams of Mike Granger and David Reece both of Ft. Mill, SC and David Boaz of Denver, NC and Stan Goodson of Lincolnton, NC.
Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the first round and is a resident of North Carolina or South Carolina. The championship is conducted at 54 holes of four-ball stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 30 scores and ties for the final round.
