50th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Preview

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (April 24, 2018) -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 50th Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship will take place April 25-27 at Mimosa Hills Golf & Country Club in Morganton, N.C. The field is expected to consist of 80 sides for this 36-hole stroke-play event.

Sides to Watch:

• Two-time defending champion Jim Pearson of Charlotte, N.C. Pearson, who won this championship the past two years with Jim Grainger, is teaming with Buck Wearn, also of Charlotte, N.C.
• Last year's runner-up team of Preston Edmondson of Morrisville, N.C. and Ed Byman of Raleigh, N.C. Edmondson is the two-time defending Carolinas Senior champion. Together with Byman, the duo won the 2016 North Carolina Senior Four-Ball.
• 2017 N.C. Senior Four-Ball champions Robby Kirby and Nolan Mills, III of Charlotte, N.C.
• Four-time CGA champion Walter Todd, Sr. of Laurens, S.C. and two-time South Carolina Senior champion Todd Hendley of Greer, S.C.
• The duo of five-time CGA champion Russ Perry of Winston Salem, N.C. and John Salerno of Charlotte, N.C.
• 2015 Carolinas Senior champion Pat Thompson of Asheville, N.C. and three-time CGA champion Keith Waters of Raleigh, N.C.
• 2014 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball champions, Ron Carpenter of Creedmoor, N.C. and Gary Brown of Charlotte, N.C. Carpenter is a five-time CGA champion, while Brown has notched two titles.
• 2006 North Carolina Senior Four-Ball champions, Robert Desjardins of Matthews, N.C. and Bill Boles, Jr. of Wilson, N.C.
• Macon Moye of Pinehurst, N.C., a three-time CGA champion, and Frank Golden of Charlotte, N.C.

Defending Champions: Jim Grainger, Charlotte, N.C. and Jim Pearson, Charlotte, N.C.
Format: 54-holes stroke play. Gross scores only. After 36 holes, cut to low 30 scores and ties.  A tie for the overall
championship is decided by an on-course playoff.

Eligibility: Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by April 25, and is either:
a. “Legal Resident” of North Carolina or South Carolina, a member in good
standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA)
and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club, or
b. “Non-Resident” who is a member of a Type I (Green Grass) CGA member
club, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® issued by a Type I (Green
Grass) CGA member club, and owns a residence in North Carolina or South
Carolina. Note: Non-residents must use their Carolinas residence address when
registering for this championship.
