Round One Results
Even playing in today's cold conditions, Reona Hirai of Summerville, S.C. is heading into the final round of the 9th Carolinas Young Amateur Championship with a three shot lead in the Womens' division. Hirai scored an even par 36 on the front nine then fired a two under 34 on the back, for a total of two under par 70. Following Hirai is Jaelyn Tindal of Rock Hill, S.C. who aced the par 3 number 3 and finished with a round of one over par 73. There are 3 other players besides Jaelyn within 5 shots of the lead, including Jaelyn's sister Jodee TIndal (75) of Rock Hill, S.C., Jessica Spicer (74) of Bahama, N.C., and Kelli Murphy (74) of Elgin, S.C.
Two are tied at the top of the Mens' division, Eric Bae of Pinehurst, N.C., and Tanner Gross of Archdale, N.C.. Bea and Gross each shot a one under 71. Bea, winner of this year's North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship, is seeking to add his second CGA Championship win of the year to his belt. Meanwhile, Gross is looking to win his first CGA Championship.
The Carolinas Young Amateur is open to any male or female amateur golfer ages 18 to 25 as of December 29, 2017, who has finished high school, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club.
Round Two starts tomorrow, December 29, with a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start.
