Carpenter Leads NC Super Senior

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (September 25, 2017) -- First Round Results of the 10th North Carolina Super Senior Championship at Hendersonville Country Club in Hendersonville, N.C. from September 25th.

Ron Carpenter of Creedmoor leads after the first round of the 10th North Carolina Super Senior Championship hosted by Hendersonville Country Club in Hendersonville, N.C. Carpenter, the 2014 champion, shot a three-under-par, 67. Carpenter got off to a hot start birding his first two holes. He then added three more birdies on the Par 70, 1933 Donald Ross design to propel him to first. Just one shot back of Carpenter is the top-ranked senior amateur in the Carolinas, Paul Simson of Raleigh. Simson, the defending champion, bogeyed his opening hole but bounced back with three birdies to finish at two-under-par, 68. Alone in third is Arlis Pike of Kernersville. Pike is two shots back of Carpenter after his opening round 69. Pike's 69 was extra special to him as he shot his age and did it the day before his 70th birthday.
Leading the 70+ Division is Tom Hadley of Hendersonville. Hadley opened with a even-par 70. Hadley does have a little home field advantage as he has won the club championship at Hendersonville Country Club an amazing 27 times.
This championship is conducted at 36 holes of stroke play. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer, age 65 and older, who is a legal resident of North Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index®. Players may sign up for the 65+ or 70+ age division.
