The championship is conducted at match play. There is an 18-hole stroke-play qualifying round to determine match play flights and seeding. The top 16 from the stroke-play portion will qualify for the championship flight. The other players will be in flights of 8 players based on their qualifying score.
The championship flight will play 4 rounds of match play. All matches will be 9-hole matches with the championship match being an 18-hole match (no elimination). All other flights will play 3 rounds of 9-hole matches (no elimination). Since there is no elimination, players are encouraged to play all rounds of match play even if they are defeated in an earlier round.
Notable past champions of this event include professional golfers Webb Simpson (1997) and Carter Jenkins (2008). Numerous other winners have played Division I collegiate golf. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached his 14th birthday by July 11, 2017, is a legal resident of North Carolina and the junior golfer, parent or guardian is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association.
This is the 11th consecutive year the championship has been conducted at Asheboro GC. Located just minutes from downtown Asheboro, this popular public nine hole course designed by the famed Donald Ross in 1935, is located on 56 acres of beautiful tree-lined greenways.
Scoring will be provided by the CGA throughout the championship. Live updates will also be available on the CGA’s Junior Department Twitter account, @CarolinasJunior.
