Players to Watch at Creed Boys' Invite


SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (May 24, 2016) -- The Carolinas Golf Association’s junior boys’ 2016 championship season continues this weekend with the 4th Creed Boys’ Invitational at Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C.  The Camden Country Club Board of Directors created the Creed Junior Boys’ Invitational in 2013 to honor Mr. Jimmy Creed of Camden, S.C., for his support of junior golf.  90 junior boys from across the Carolinas will play 36 holes (18 each day) over Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29 while competing in three divisions based on their age.

Mr. Creed passed away in October of 2012 as one of the most popular and well thought of members at Camden Country Club.  “He loved kids and was very supportive of the junior golfers at the club,” said Camden CC head professional Matt McCarley.  McCarley added, “He was a former junior champion here at the club and made it to the semi-finals of the CGA four ball championship.”  Proceeds from the tournament will go to a scholarship foundation to help local kids.

Eric Bae of Pinehurst, N.C. A high school senior committed to playing golf at Wake Forest University, Bae recently finished second in the NC 4-A state championship.  He is currently #5 in the NC junior boys’ rankings.
 

Caleb Proveaux of Lexington, S.C. A high school senior, he and brother Cody qualified for the 2016 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club. Caleb advanced to the match play round of 32 at the 2015 U.S. Amateur and won The Blade Junior Classic. He is #3 in the SC boys' rankings.    
 

Patrick Stephenson of Four Oaks, N.C. A high school senior headed to play for East Carolina in the fall, Stephenson recently won the NC 3-A state championship. He is #2 in the NC junior boys' rankings.
 

Patrick Golden of Murrells Inlet, S.C. A high school junior, Golden won this year's Members Club High School Invitational and had top-three finishes at the Jimmy Anderson Boys' and Palmetto High School championships. He is #4 in the SC boys' rankings.
 

Jack Massei of Cary, N.C. A high school sophomore, Massei won the 2015 NC Junior Boys' Championship. He is ranked 15th in the NC junior boys' rankings.
 

Reed Bentley of Welford, S.C. A high school junior, Bentley has compiled top-10 finishes this spring at the Parks Hutto Bengal Invite, Spartanburg County High School, and Hardaway High School championships. He is #6 in the SC boys' rankings.
 

Walker Simas of Charlotte, N.C.  Simas, a high school senior, finished second in last year's event and tied for third in 2014. He is 8th in the NC boys’ rankings.

Brady Hinkle of Lancaster, S.C. A high school sophomore, Hinkle has three top-10 performances in 2016. He is #8 in the SC boys' rankings.
 
Jack Parrott of Columbia, SC.  Parrott, a high school junior, had top-10 finishes last year in the SCGA Junior and Carolinas Junior championships. He is currently ranked 16th in the state of SC.

The Creed Junior Boys' Invitational format is 36-holes of stroke play. Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has not reached their 19th birthday by May 29, 2016 who has not started college and is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina.

Located in historic Camden, South Carolina's oldest inland city, the Camden Country Club was chartered in 1899 as a place "for golf, polo and other athletic sports" and established in 1903.  Camden Country Club is considered one of South Carolinas distinguished private clubs. Camden Country Club golf course was re-designed in the late 1920's by the renowned golf course designer/architect, Donald Ross. The course was revamped to a more traditional Ross design in 2012 by Kris Spence.
