Carolinas Mid-Am Championship Release
SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. -- The Carolinas Golf Association's 35th Mid-Amateur Championship will take place from April 17-19 on North Ridge Country Club's Lakes course in Raleigh, N.C. The golf course aptly named the Lakes was designed by Gene Hamm and George Cobb, later redesigned by John LaFoy to assure challenge and playability for players of all skill levels. This is the second Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship conducted on the Lakes course. In 1997, Paul Simson, of Raleigh, N.C. defeated Steve Jones, of Oak Ridge, N.C. in a playoff. Other CGA championships hosted by the club are the 2014 North Carolina Four-Ball and 2011 North Carolina Senior Amateur. Next April, the club will host the 2016 Carolinas Senior Four-Ball.

The field for the 2015 championship is expected to consist of 120 players. Exempt players were automatically accepted into the championship while others were required to qualify for the tournament through one of five 18-hole qualifiers.

2014 champion Matthew Crenshaw of Burlington, N.C. will not defend his title as he is recovering from wrist surgery and hopes to return to competitive golf this summer.
Former champions in this year's field include: four-time winner Paul Simson (1990, 91, 94 & 97) of Raleigh, N.C.; Paul Tucker (2011) of Waxhaw, N.C.; Steve Liebler (2010) of Irmo, S.C.; Jarrett Grimes (2009) of Columbia, S.C.; Walter Todd, Sr. (2007) of Laurens, S.C and John Finster (2005) of Raleigh, N.C.
The Carolinas Mid-Amateur Championship format is 54 holes of stroke play. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the low 60 scores and ties. Entry is open to any male golfer who has reached his 30th birthday by April 17, 2015, is a legal resident of North or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a member club that does not exceed 5.4.

Saturday, April 18: Round 2. Tee times at 7:50am off #1 only. Cut to low 60 scores and ties. Field re-paired according to score.
Sunday, April 19: Round 3. Tee times begin at 7:50am off #1 only. Awards ceremony immediately following play at scoreboard.
