Jaspers Third Day in the Red Wins Him the 2014 N.C. Mid-Amateur Championship
DURHAM, N.C. – Final round results of the 21st North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship hosted by Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 (6900 yards, par 36-36—72, 73.7,132).
First round co-leader Joe Jaspers, 48, of Huntersville, put together another round in the red numbers to hold off Daniel Neveu and reigning U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion Scott Harvey by a single stroke to take home the 2014 North Carolina Mid-Amateur Championship at seven-under par 209. “Consistency was my key all week,” said Jaspers on only making two bogeys and one double bogey in 54 holes. On his first CGA Championship, “There were some great golfers out there and I was fortunate to come out on top.”
Daniel Neveu, 47, of Pinehurst followed up his course-record 64 Saturday with a four-under par 68 to finish at six-under par 210. Neveu was tied for the lead going into the last hole and came away with a three-putt bogey. “I thought I had to make that birdie putt.” Neveu said on his aggressive birdie try from 18 feet. Neveu played a strong stretch of golf over 29 holes, going 13-under in that stretch, but came up one-stroke short.
2013 Champion, Jeff Allen of Jacksonville, recorded a two-over par 74 and finished T-33 for the championship.
